Nominated to Be Nominated

We have been chosen to be considered as possible Grammy nominees in 3 categories: Best Country Album, Best Country Single and Best Americana Album.

That does not mean we have actually been nominated – that is further down the line. We are simply among hundreds of albums release in 2017 that might get a shot at being heard by the Grammy Board Members. So, if you know any Grammy Members, please ask them to give a listen to “That’s What I’m Talkin’ About”. It’s available at the following link to CD Baby.

We are very proud of this album. We worked hard on writing and selecting the cuts, editing arrangements and playing and singing in the studio to make a record that you will want to listen to time and time again. Our producer, 9 time Grammy nominee John Jacob (Maria Muldaur, Dan Hicks, Kingston Trio, etc.) put in many long days at the mixing console to bring all the elements together in just the right way.

Go ahead, give it a listen. You might find that you really like it.

MP Duo at Villa Rustica

Another fun show for our friends Tim and Michelle at Villa Rustica. This is a beautiful winery located in central southern Minnesota, right outside Dunnell. Now that our album is available for the first time, folks can even take a little Medicinal purposes home with them. it’s all perfectly legal!!!

Medicinal Purposes Hawaii Tour A Success!

Medicinal Purposes with Lenny Wayne at Hilo Town Tavern. Great show!
Hawai’i at it’s most beautiful. Waipi’o Valley.

We visited Hawaii for a short tour and were joined 1/2 way through by our friend Lenny Wayne. We had so many wonderful moments. We would like to thank our new friend Phyllis, our old friend Jim (Strawberry) and all the other new friends we made on the island. Special thanks goes out to Tropics Ale House, The Hilo Town Tavern and especially the Lava Shack. Mahalo for having us and making us feel welcome. Aloha and see you again soon.

Mp In A Nutshell

Medicinal Purposes is a genre-defying duo based out of the Dubuque, Iowa – Galena, Illinois area. Our style incorporates blues, country, rock, folk and lots of fun. It’s dance music, it’s listening music and it’s “grab your instrument and join us”music. Veteran performers Scott Kerry Guthrie and Cowgirl Pearl Breitbach perform covers and originals in a lively manner that is sure to entertain people of all ages. We have played hundreds of shows in our first year together and we look forward to many more.

Here is a link to a video of our song “If You Notice Someone Missing (It’s Just Me)” we recorded ourselves for NPR’s tiny Desk Contest:

We cover some songs by other writers and performers such as “455 Rocket” and “Miss Ohio” by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, “Mercury Blues” by KC and Robert Geddens, “Walking In Memphis” by Mark Cohn, etc. More importantly, we have written some excellent songs that are often asked for by our fans. We are in studio now recording these tunes, which include “This Cowgirl Ain’t For You”, “Just Like Coming Home”, “Badazz”, “Two Trains (Passing In The Night)”, “We Survived Nashville” and more.

antique archaeology

We got invited to play at Antique Archaeology in Nashville during a recent visit, we have been given an opportunity to host a small festival at Council Hill Station outside of Galena, IL and we have been asked to return to every venue we have ever played; I consider that a good sign. We look forward to coming to a town near you. see our Calendar Page for details of what is coming next.

Scott Guthrie, Pearl, and Scott Rische…
We will have them back for sure!

The stage was a pontoon boat, The venue was a huge deck shaped like the deck of an old wooden sailing ship. Very clever setup!

A Busy Time For Us

Medicinal Purposes is busy working 4-10 gigs every month while we also prepare a video for NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert Contest”  and try to make some studio time for our first CD. We also have joined Folk Alliance International and are attending the conference in Kansas City in March. We are rehearsing several days a week and writing new material as well as re-imagining some beloved cover tunes. The momentum we have been experiencing seems to increase daily and we could not be more excited. Hang on to your hats as as we commence the wildest musical ride of our careers so far.IMAG1091 (1)
